History
At the end of the 19th century around 1880, Don Francisco Andonegui inherited from his mother, Doña EstefanÃa, the property of Vallecitos, a large ranch that extended thousands of hectares in a beautiful valley north of Valle de Guadalupe, in the territory of Baja California. California, municipality of Ensenada, which the Andonegui Lords acquired from Lieutenant Colonel HO Ryerson a few years earlier.
Don Francisco Andonegui, originally from the Santa Bárbara Mission, (Alta) California, Mexico, had the intention of doing the same thing in Vallecitos that he achieved in the already legendary Santo Tomás Valley in the same municipality of Ensenada, where he founded the first marketer of wine from the Mexican Republic. He did not have enough time and when he passed away Vallecitos remained as a project.
Over the generations, the property remained in the hands of Andonegui’s descendants and was eventually acquired by Don Mario Ruanova Haller who married Don Francisco’s granddaughter, Doña Angelina Filipina Zárate Vidal.
Today, the grandchildren of Don Mario and Doña Fili, children of Don Rafael Ruanova Zárate and Doña Teresa Morett de Ruanova, continue with that dream of our ancestor: To make Vallecitos a productive land, where the experience of the countryside and the exquisite taste join in a new path to the Wine Route.
